Measuring for your Ergo Doors Sliding Door System

Measuring for your door system is of vital importance to the success of your Ergo Doors sliding door system installation. That is why we have put together this brief guide to measuring for your successful sliding door installation.

You will need to provide a flat level surface which has 4 x 90 degree angles and is perfectly square or rectangular for your installation to be a success. This can be achieved by a competent DIY'er or by employing a competent tradesperson. We recommend that you use Trustmark approved tradespeople for preparing your opening and installation. Your local authority will hold a list of approved/recommended tradespersons who will be equipped to assist if you are in doubt.

It will be worth asking a friend or partner to assist when obtaining your measurements. When measuring in either a vertical or horizontal plane we recommend keeping your tape measure either level or plumb in each plane to obtain accurate measurements. It's also worth checking your measurements twice to ensure accuracy.

Measuring for Sliding door installation to prepared opening.

  1. Measure from floor to ceiling at points A, B and C (figure 1.) and record your measurements. Use the MINIMUM of the three dimensions for entering as your height measurement. If your dimensions vary by more than 3mm you will need to use an appropriate strike plate for the bottom and top ensuring that the dimensions are within the required tolerance. We do sell melamine faced materials which you can use for this purpose.
  2. Take measurements D and E (figure 1.) check and record these. Use the MAXIMUM dimension as your opening width. Again if there is a large variance more than 3mm in these dimensions you will need to provide a suitable strike plate within the required tolerances which will allow efficient operation of your new sliding door system.

Measuring for installation between one wall and a door opening (requires stud partition or end panel).

  1. Measure from floor to ceiling at points A, B and C (figure 2.) and record your measurements.
  2. Take measurements D and E (figure 2.) check and record these. This dimension should be to the inside edge of your proposed enclosure. Check that you have enough space between the outside edge of your end panel or stud and your architrave which surrounds your existing door. Use the MAXIMUM dimension as your opening width. Again if there is a large variance more than 3mm in these dimensions due to the existing wall, you will need to provide a suitable strike plate within the required tolerances which will allow efficient operation of your new sliding door system.
